For Immediate Release
October 20, 2011

NFL Player Brian Westbrook to be Inducted into DeMatha Hall of Fame

DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland to honor 1997 Graduate, Brian Westbrook at Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner Sunday, October 23rd

HYATTSVILLE, MD — October 20, 2011 — On Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 4:00 pm, Hyattsville based DeMatha High School will honor its former alum, Brian Westbrook with his induction into the school’s Hall of Fame.

Westbrook, a 3 year honor roll member, was an all-conference performer in football in both his junior and senior years at DeMatha. He also played a key role on two varsity basketball teams at DeMatha under the legendary Morgan Wootten, including the 1996 championship squad.

Brian is one of three DeMatha alums to make All-Pro in the NFL and also the first DeMatha alum to ever play in the Super Bowl.

Brian nominated his high school football coach, Bill McGregor, as the NFL High School Coach of the Year, an award McGregor would later receive. Coach McGregor was honored just before the 2005 Super Bowl which featured the Philadelphia Eagles versus the New England Patriots. Brian’s younger brother, Byron, now with the Washington Redskins, is also an alum of DeMatha.

Over a span of nine years in the NFL, Westbrook, a two-time Pro Bowler, evolved into one of the league’s most electrifying players to become one of only 15 players with over 10,000 yards from scrimmage.

Drafted in the third round (91st overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, Westbrook has played in 121 games and has registered 6,335 yards on 1,385 carries and 41 touchdowns on the ground, to go along with 442 receptions for 3,940 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air.

One of the most prolific backs in Philadelphia Eagles history, Westbrook is the franchise’s all-time leader in yards from scrimmage (9,785) and touches (1,734). He also ranks second in Philadelphia’s record books in rushing yards (5,995), while ranking third in total touchdowns (68), receptions (426), rushing touchdowns (37), rushing attempts (1,308) and rushing average (4.6 yards per carry). Westbrook also holds the Eagles all-time single-season records in both total yards from scrimmage (2,104 in 2007) and receptions (90 in 2007).

Last season, Westbrook was the only active player, and one of seven in NFL history, to register at least 30 rushing touchdowns and 30 receiving touchdowns.

Westbrook is currently an NFL free agent. He owns and operates a horse farm in Southern Maryland.

Due to my ongoing rehabilitation and after conferring with family and medical staff, unfortunately the decision has been made to cancel this year’s Annual Brian’s Baseball Bash. This event has grown tremendously over the past five years and is truly special to Diana and I, and that makes this decision a difficult one. My focus will be to improve my health so I can get back on the field as soon as possible, and return to supporting some of the Baltimore community initiatives we have developed and contribute to. Our sincere thanks to everyone at UMMS for all their efforts on the Bash, and we’re looking forward to putting together another wonderful event in 2012.

Westbrook recognizes two local youth as positive role models and rewards them with a memorable Prom Night Experience.

May 6, 2011 (FT. WASHINGTON, MARYLAND) Through his charitable arm, Brian’s Blessings, Brian Westbrook has presented a memorable prom experience to two well-deserving students from Friendly High School.
“Young people today are so often recognized for negative things in life or for getting into trouble. I’m a firm believer that if we can recognize and praise the positive things kids do, they will do more positive things!” Westbrook says. “These youth exemplify being excellent students, good citizens, and giving back to the community even at their young age.”

The young man’s name is Alijah Harley. Alijah is described as loving, caring, independent and always aiming to please his mom. He knows and loves the Lord and is constantly encouraging others to do what’s right. His dreams are to be successful in life, play basketball, help some people out along the way and make his mother proud. He will hold on to his Christmas and birthday money as long as he can just so that his mother will not have to provide money for him for school lunch or other activities. Alijah is a basketball junky and has been an Allentown Arrow since age 7. Outside of his active basketball life, he has taken the time out to volunteer with his uncle Mike with his youth basketball team, he has volunteered at health fairs sponsored by the nonprofit organization the River Jordan Project, Inc., and has served as an executive board parliamentarian with Friendly High School Student Government Association (SGA) for the last two years. He has taken honors courses and been an active member on/off in the honors program since elementary school. Alijah takes pride in being a big brother, a Friendly patriot and a mature teenager. This is a child who genuinely takes his walk of life seriously and looks forward to becoming a lawyer of some sort in the future.

The young lady’s name is Brittany Jackson and she is an amazing leader. She is an honor roll student at Friendly High School in Fort Washington MD where she is also a member of the National Honor English and Spanish society.

NFL Star Willis McGahee, Towson University Head Coach Rob Ambrose and Reservoir High School Coach Rick Trott band together to provide assistance for a local family struck by tragedy.

BALTIMORE FEBRUARY 22, 2011 As a former Towson University football player and U.S. Marine, Joe Sclafani, Jr. would never have seen this coming. Unexpectedly and without explanation, the C5/C6 disk bulged and compressed Joe’s spinal cord. During surgery, his doctor found another obstacle, an infectious abscess that had encapsulated itself into his spinal cord as well. The pressure from both the disk and abscess resulted in Sclafani becoming a quadriplegic.

Although they lived in a ranch-style house, Joe could only access twenty percent of the house on his own. He could not access his daughter’s bedrooms to read to them, kiss them goodnight, or play with them due to the size of the hallway and the entrance sizes of their rooms. Since the master bedroom door was widened, Joe could access it; however, in order to fit the lift needed to move Joe and necessary medical supplies, he and his wife, Monica slept in separate single beds and their dressers and clothes were kept in the garage. The one bathroom in the house was not accessible with an ever smaller entrance than the girls’ rooms. Joe had not been able to feel running water for about a year, getting “bird baths” every day lying in bed.

The Sclafani house needed some modifications and a modest addition to create a handicapped-accessible house that would change the quality of their lives and assist Joe with being more independent. Joe and Monica had thought about making some renovations to their house but the money they receive from disability is not even enough to pay their current monthly bills.

Three guys, all from different walks of football lives, band together to change that.

Rick Trott, who currently coaches football at Reservoir High School, received an email from his old college football coach, Rob Ambrose, the Head Coach at Towson University. The email from Ambrose which spoke of Sclafani and his situation, was sent to the football alum of TU imploring them to find a way to help a “brother” in need and thus a chain of events began that would change the Sclafani’s lives.

Trott had never met the man that was described in the email. Sclafani had left TU a year before Trott ever stepped on the field there. Still, the letter spoke to him and he knew he had to do something. Trott called his neighbor and friend, NFL player Willis McGahee to come up with a plan to help. McGahee knew exactly who the next call should go out to. Almost immediately upon arriving in Baltimore McGahee wanted to give back to the community and knowing that area Realtors are always in touch with neighborhoods and communities, a partnership between the running back and the Realtors was formed. A call was placed, a few emails exchanged, and within a couple weeks, the Sclafani family was contacted by the Maryland Partnership for Housing Foundation which administers the program Maryland Home Makeover. The news was just what the family had been wishing for. They would become the recipients of a brand new addition to their home which would be outfitted with handicap accessibilities the Sclafani family could only dream of.

“The brotherhood of football is a bond that only those who have played can truly understand its depth,” remarks Ambrose, “In my career there have been numerous prideful moments both as a player and a coach but the outpouring of support for the Sclafani family and the active participation by those in the larger football family is, in a word, awesome.” Trott adds, “When my college football career was cut short at Towson due to an injury, Coach Ambrose kept me around and taught me the coaching trade. I made a promise then that if I ever had the chance to repay him I would. When he sent the email about Joe’s situation I knew Willis could help.”

McGahee has kept in touch throughout the renovation process and has a few more surprises in store for the Sclafani family during the ribbon cutting for their new home in a few weeks. “I’m really happy with how this project has turned out,” McGahee says. “Knowing that Joe will be able to access his little girls’ rooms to say goodnight and will be able to actually roll himself into the shower now is just huge. I’ve been so blessed in my life and career and the chance to share a little of that has been very humbling. I’m so honored to have been a part of this.”

Brian Roberts and wife, Diana set to embark on a Mission of Giving

BALTIMORE, MD (January 25, 2010) – Brian Roberts is most known for his on the field performance as the Orioles’ second baseman and in the clubhouse as one of the leaders of the team. But it’s his off-the-field activities that make him a hero to some very special children in the Baltimore area.

For the past several years, Brian has visited the University of Maryland Hospital for Children to bring smiles to some of his tiniest fans. Roberts knows all too well what it’s like to be in their shoes. You see, he was once one of them himself. Many people don’t realize the now strong, agile athlete was a frail little 5 year old facing open-heart surgery. Roberts, along with his wife, Diana, have made a commitment to continue and strengthen their support of the hospital and their pediatric patients through their newly established One-For-All Fund. Funds will be raised through various fundraisers including the annual event “Brian’s Baseball Bash.”

Roberts is set to appear at the Orioles Fanfest this coming Saturday. Thanks to the Orioles Reach Program, he and Diana will be hosting 15 families through the University of Maryland Hospital for Children at Fanfest and are looking forward to reuniting with children they visited as patients there in the past.

“When it comes to my community efforts, I’m so thankful to be a part of a team like the Orioles. They’ve been so generous in furthering my support of the hospital. These kids and their families sometimes just need a reason to smile and my goal is to see every little face light up and forget about their illness for a while,” Roberts says. “To see how they handle their situations with such optimism and courage is really inspiring to me.”

Roberts Co-Chairs the Board of Visitors for the Hospital with Chip Doetsch, who says, “Brian and his wife work earnestly and selflessly to ensure that the children of Baltimore receive the best care possible.” Doetsch continues, “The part of Brian that is even more impressive than his talent as a player, is his character as a man.”

Shannon Joslin manages the Child Life Program at University of Maryland Hospital for Children. “I have had the pleasure of working with Brian and Diana to coordinate visits with children and families in the hospital, Joslin says, “as well as child/family attendance at special events outside of the hospital that are made possible by Brian and Diana and the Orioles – like Fanfest, the annual Baseball Bash, and Orioles games. Brian and Diana understand the importance of treating the whole child – that play, laughter, and normal kid ‘celebrations’ are essential elements of the healing process along with medical care. Brian and Diana have partnered with the University of Maryland Hospital for Children on all levels to support the care of children and families – from providing financial support for the new hybrid cath lab in the treatment of children with cardiac conditions, to providing their time, resources and personal presence to join in the play at our Child Life Carnival. We value the passion and dedication Brian and Diana exemplify with their ongoing support and involvement with children and families at the University of Maryland Hospital for Children.”

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Roberts is available to speak with media today, Tuesday, January 25, 2010 after 1pm. Please email deb@campinslifestyle.com or call or text (410)340-3569 to be placed on the call-in schedule.

BALTIMORE, MD (December 28, 2010)—Thanks to the generosity of Ravens Running Back Willis McGahee, and Left Tackle Michael Oher, over two hundred disadvantaged and at-risk youth enjoyed a day courtside watching the Harlem Globetrotters at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD.

McGahee and Oher participated in a skit with the Globetrotter players entitled “Football” – something that is right up their alley. Oher guest starred in the 2pm show and McGahee took the court in the 7pm show.

“Rather than inviting a group of friends to watch me, I thought it would be a good opportunity to give back to the community,” Oher said. “So many kids and their parents don’t have the means to be able to do things like this as a family. I’d like to give them a few hours away from the stresses of day-to-day life that the less fortunate community often experiences.”

McGahee adds, “It feels great to be able to give kids a fun opportunity like this. School supplies and food are one thing, but those are necessities my foundation provides. Sometimes, I just want to show them good old fashioned fun too! In addition to the kids coming out, I’ve also invited some people that are always giving back to the community but never want to get any credit for how much they do. I think it’s important to reward those folks, too.”

Oher’s invited group includes children selected by the office of Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

Over the next two months, each athlete will have the opportunity to raise money for the charity of their choice through a text-to-donate campaign. All Stars Helping Kids will award matching funds up to $2,500 for each finalist. To learn about each finalist and their beneficiary organizations, please visit the All Stars Helping website at http://www.allstarshelpingkids.org/teammates/index2011.html.

The two award recipients will be announced in the spring and will have the opportunity to attend the Jefferson Awards National Banquet in our nation’s capitol on June 21st, 2011 Past recipients of Jefferson Awards for Public Service include, Oprah Winfrey, Colin Powell, Lance Armstrong and Bill and Melinda Gates.

In the fall of 2010, The Jefferson Awards and All Stars issued a call to service, encouraging teams to nominate community oriented athletes and asking fans to show their support by helping to select the winners. Voting was conducted both online and via text message, with over 64,000 casting their vote for one of the 36 nominees.

“I am so humbled to be a part of this special group of athletes making a difference,” Westbrook said. “Looking at what this group has accomplished together is just amazing and to know that this is just a small sampling of what we can achieve in our own communities is really awe-inspiring. Right now, I am working on plans to construct The Brian Westbrook Community Outreach Center in my hometown and I’m so excited to have AllStarsHelpingKids as a partner.”

“These champions represent a wide swath of success both on and off the playing field, and we are very excited to be able to honor this group,” Lott said. “The real winners in this process are the millions of people that all these athletes have assisted in community service. It is an honor for us to recognize this group and assist all of them in their very noble endeavors.”

“It is a pleasure to recognize these ten outstanding athletes and we are excited for them join us in Washington for the national ceremony,” said Sam Beard, founder of the Jefferson Awards for Public Service. “Many times we forget that elite athletes from so many different walks of life are using their stature to make an impact, and this group is a great cross-sampling of what is being done in so many sports to impact the lives of others. They are all leaders and champions in their own ways, and we are proud to salute them all.”

Thanks to the generosity of All Pro Running Back Brian Westbrook, hundreds of local less fortunate children will enjoy holiday gifts they might not otherwise receive this year. In an effort to double his efforts this year, Westbrook’s philanthropic arm, Brian’s Blessings held two events.

Westbrook seeks to touch the lives of families who often struggle day-to-day to keep food on the table, a roof above their heads and who come under great stress during the holiday season. With rising energy costs and a slow economy, it means that more people than ever will be depending on the generosity of others this year. Westbrook wants to make sure no family has to make the difficult decision between heating their home, putting a hot meal on the table, or providing a little joy to their children during the holidays.

“It’s been very humbling for me to participate in events like this,” says Westbrook, “I’m so blessed to be in a position to share with others and to be a part of teaching the children about the importance of being giving back to the community. I was a part of the Allentown Boys & Girls Club and the local schools growing up and it feels great to come full-circle and help support the kids who are involved there today.”

Wednesday’s event at William Paca Elementary School in Landover, MD was hosted by Westbrook’s parents Ron and Zelda. “Brian’s Blessings started about eight years ago. The purpose of it is to help less privileged children receive gifts on Christmas and around Thanksgiving time. Brian had been doing this primarily in the Philadelphia area when he was with the Eagles, he wanted to continue that. He’s in San Francisco right now so my wife and I have been representing him in our hometown while he’s away.”

Thursday’s Brian’s Blessings event was hosted by Ron and Zelda Westbrook at the Allentown Boys and Girls Club. This location and event holds dear to Brian’s heart because it is the place where he received his very first football uniform growing up in the Fort Washington area. Westbrook’s father, Ron Westbrook, address the crowd of children telling them that Allentown is where Brian got his start and if they work hard, they could become successful and be anything they want to be.

In addition to the two events, Westbrook has provided gifts to several deserving individual families who are facing struggles this year. Some of the recipients include a single mother of three who is ill and awaiting a kidney transplant. Another is a family with twin girls whose mom has had to stop working in order to stay home to care for one of the twins who has cancer.

Last week Brian’s Blessings distributed hundreds of hats, gloves and other warmth items to children in need and their families.

In recognition of his philanthropic efforts, Westbrook has been nominated for the prestigious Jefferson Award. Fans can vote for Westbrook through December 31, 2010 by texting “30″ to 99158 or they can vote online by going to http://www.allstarshelpingkids.org/teammates/voting2011.html

RB Willis McGahee and LT Oher will partner with the Harlem Globetrotters to host over 200 disadvantaged and at-risk youth

BALTIMORE, MD (December 28, 2010)—Thanks to the generosity of Ravens Running Back Willis McGahee, and Left Tackle Michael Oher, over two hundred disadvantaged and at-risk youth will enjoy a day courtside watching the Harlem Globetrotters at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD, December 28, 2010 at 2:00 and 7:00 pm shows.

McGahee and Oher will participate in a skit with the Globetrotter players entitled “Football” – something that is right up their alley. Oher will guest star in the 2pm show and McGahee takes the court in the 7pm show.

Whether it’s watching me run the ball, or play basketball, or (laughs) playing at long snapper! Hopefully, we won’t be seeing a whole lot of the latter,” McGahee says with a grin, “but I’m ready to help my team regardless. No doubt, I’m ready for sure.”

Oher’s invited group includes less fortunate children selected by the office of Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. McGahee’s group includes less fortunate families and several individuals who constantly, quietly give back to their own communities without asking for recognition, when they have little themselves.

(BALTIMORE, MD) Friday, December 10, 2010 – Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Derrick Mason is set to unveil the inaugural print run of t-shirts bearing the same design as the Purple Ops “We Are One” banner seen hanging boldly in his locker space Thursday. The banner and shirts speak to Mason’s call for unity. “I think what’s been going on around here, especially in the last game and what’s transpired throughout the season, people are trying to divide not just the team, but the coaching staff, as well, pointing fingers from outside this building,” Mason explained. “We’re just letting people know that we’re a team. We’re in this together. As a city, we hope people are with us. That’s why it was made.”

Shirts from this print run will be distributed to Mason’s teammates by mid-day Friday and a limited amount will be set aside for media purposes.

December 14, 2010 Westbrook’s parents were be on hand to distribute gloves, hats, ear muffs and other winter apparel to children and families in need.

Helping others is nothing new for Westbrook who seeks to touch the lives of at-risk or in-need children through his philanthropic arm, Brian’s Blessings. For years he has provided Thanksgiving dinners, holiday toys, backpacks and school supplies. “Being in a position than enables me to give back is such a blessing to me,” says Westbrook, “My goal is to provide hope and encouragement. I want these kids to know they can be anything they want in life.”

Next week, Brian’s Blessings will visit the PG Public School children again as well as children from the Allentown Boys & Girls Club to provide holiday gifts.

Baltimore Ravens’ Players partnered with the Howard County Community Action Council and the Maryland Food Bankandto donate Thanksgiving Dinners for 450 families plus stock the 9 food pantries throughout Howard County

Baltimore, MD — Nov 17, 2009 –

BALTIMORE, MD(November 17, 2008)—Thanks to the generosity of Baltimore Ravens Willis McGahee, Ray Rice, Orioles Outfielder Adam Jones and The Willis McGahee Foundation, 450 of Howard Country’s neediest families will enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal in the privacy of their homes this holiday season. The players will be on-hand to personally distribute the dinners and to delivery food to stock the Howard County food pantries on Tuesday, November 25th at The Owen Brown Interfaith Center. Located at 7246 Cradlerock Way Columbia, MD 21045 from 11:30am – 1:30pm

Willis McGaheeasked a few of his teammates to partner with him so he could contacted local officials asking them to identify 450 needy families to be benefactors. Helping others is nothing new for McGahee. Last year McGahee held a toy drive and was truly amazed by the support of the community. In this philanthropic effort McGahee, Rice and Jones seek to touch the lives of families who often struggle day-to-day to keep food on the table and come under great stress during the holiday season. With rising energy costs and a slowing economy, it means that more people than ever will be depending on local food banks this year. McGahee wants to make sure no family has to make the difficult decision between heating their home and putting a hot meal on the table this holiday season or throughout the winter

The success of this event depends on us reaching as many caring individuals as possible and asking them to contribute to our can food drive. If you could ask your friends, family, and co workers, we know that we can make sure we can reach our goals. Here are a few ways you can help make a difference.

Churchville, MD – What does an NFL running back, a college football coach, a high school football coach and a former collegiate player have in common?

“We have a connection as far as being on the football field, just being a part of a great group of guys that love to play sports,” said Ravens running back, Willis McGahee.

Joe Sclafani is a former football player and Ravens fan. In 2009 the c5-c6 disc in his back bulged and compressed his spinal cord. The pressure from the bulging disk along with an infectious abscess left Joe a quadriplegic. Bills started to mount and for Joe, his wife Monica and their two daughters, living in a home not handicapped accessible made life even more difficult.

“We are in desperate need of these renovations to our home to make it livable to make our lives normal, “explained Joe.

Joe played high school football at Loyola and collegiately at Towson University, but during his playing days he had no way of knowing that the football he played would be the tie that binds his recovery and coping with the paralysis that he now faces.

“In the spring before my senior year, dislocated hip, fractured pelvis, I didn’t get a chance to play football anymore. And I’m the poster child for you’d better get everything you can get out of it right now, because it can be taken away from you in a heartbeat,” said Rob Ambrose, football coach at Towson University.

Rob got in touch with Reservoir High School football coach Rick Trott, who got in touch with friend Willis McGahee, who got in touch with area realtors. This link will do a makeover on Joe’s home to make it accessible to his needs.

“They’ll see their daddy not confined to a medical bed or a wheelchair, they’ll see daddy in a wide open space interacting with them,” said Joe.

NFL Player Willis McGahee, Towson University Head Coach Rob Ambrose and Reservoir High School Coach Rick Trott band together to find assistance for a local family struck by tragedy.

BALTIMORE SEPTEMBER 20, 2010 As a former Towson University football player and U.S.

Although they live in a ranch-style house, Joe can only access 20% of the house on his own. He cannot access his daughter’s bedrooms to read to them, kiss them goodnight, or play with them due to the size of the hallway and the entrance sizes of their rooms. Since the master bedroom door was widened, Joe can access it; however, in order to fit the lift needed to move Joe and necessary medical supplies, he and his wife, Monica sleep in separate single beds and their dressers and clothes are kept in the garage. The one bathroom in the house is not accessible with an ever smaller entrance than the girls’ rooms. Joe has not been able to feel running water since October. He gets “bird baths” every day lying in bed.

The Sclafani house needs some modifications and a modest addition to create a handicapped- accessible house that would change the quality of their lives and assist Joe with being more independent. Joe and Monica had thought about making some renovations to their house but the money they receive from disability is not enough to pay their current monthly bills.

Almost immediately upon arriving in Baltimore McGahee wanted to give back to the community and knowing that area Realtors are always in touch with neighborhood and communities, a partnership between the running back and the local Realtor Association was formed. He knew they could help. A call was placed, a few emails exchanged, and within a couple weeks, the Sclafani family was contacted by the Maryland Partnership for Housing Foundation who administer the program Maryland Home Makeover, a spinoff of NBC’s popular television show, Extreme Home Makeover. The news was just what the family had been wishing for. They would become the recipients of a brand new addition to their home which would be outfitted with handicap accessibilities the Sclafani family could only dream of.

“The Realtors are in touch with the needs of the community at a grassroots level on a daily basis,” says McGahee, “and my partnership with them has been invaluable in helping a ton of local families just like Joe’s.”

“The brotherhood of football is a bond that only those who have played can truly understand its depth,” remarks Ambrose, “In my career there have been numerous prideful moments both as a player and a coach but the outpouring of support for the Sclafani family and the active participation by those in the larger football family is, in a word, awesome.” Trott adds, “When my college football career was cut short at Towson. Due to an injury Coach Ambrose kept me around and taught me the coaching trade. I made a promise then that if I ever had the chance to repay him I would. When he sent the email about Joe’s situation I knew exactly who I could call to help.”

MEDIA OPPORTUNITY

The kick-off rally for the Home Makeover will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 21st at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1200 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21014 in the “Great Room”. Willis McGahee, Rob Ambrose, Rick Trott and members of the Partnership for Housing Foundation will be in attendance.

Pro Bowl Running Back nominated for the Jefferson Award for Outstanding Athlete in Public Service through All Stars Helping Kids

September 7, 2010: Brian Westbrook has been nominated for the esteemed Jefferson Award for Public Service for his work in service to less fortunate children through Westbrook’s philanthropic arm, “Brian’s Blessings.”

Known as the “Nobel Prize for public service,” the awards are presented each year during a special gala ceremony in Washington, D.C. where a broad array of honorees are recognized – from high-profile individuals who have dedicated the better part of their lives to public service to celebrated professional athletes to largely unheralded community-based volunteers. Past recipients of Jefferson Awards include, Oprah Winfrey, Colin Powell, Lance Armstrong and Bill and Melinda Gates.

“It’s so humbling to be nominated for this award,” Westbrook says, “So often professional athletes receive attention for negative things off the playing field. A very large number of athletes participate in positive things like giving back in their communities and this award celebrates all the guys out there working hard for the betterment of their neighborhoods, schools and the roots they came from themselves. Awards like this will help bring recognition of the good things pro athletes do.”

Brian’s Blessings was established to help local, less fortunate children foster a sense of high self worth by providing them with the tools they need to learn, play and achieve their dreams. The goal is to raise awareness of the needs of the underprivileged and to address those needs. In addition to providing tangibles such as food, educational materials and toys at the holidays, Brian’s Blessings also strives to provide the empowerment and inspiration these children need to become successful young people.

When asked what motivated him to give back, Westbrook says it’s the feeling that comes from knowing he’s made a difference in someone’s life. “If I can make sure that just one family can put a Thanksgiving dinner on the table or that just one child has a backpack and the tools they need to learn, that’s a great feeling,” says Westbrook. “And when I can do those things two and three hundred times over, well, that’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.”

Westbrook says he believes in leaving a place better than he found it, and plans to continue his philanthropic efforts in his hometown of Washington DC but also plans to extend his reach to the children of the San Francisco Bay Area. Westbrook was signed to a one year contract with the San Francisco 49ers for the 2010-2011 season.

Media note: More information about this award can be found at www.allstarshelpingkids.org and www.jeffersonawards.org and some of Westbrook’s philanthropic activities can be seen on his website www.bwestbrook.com

Although Brian Westbrook has moved to the Bay Area, he hasn’t forgotten about his hometown of Washington DC.

And last week, the 49ers new running back made sure that at least 150 kids from Washington DC area would have the necessary tools to succeed in the classroom.

Westbrook partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington DC to provide 150 underprivileged children with backpacks filled with school supplies. The gift was been made possible through Westbrook’s non-profit organization, Brian’s Blessings.

“In that area, there are a lot of young kids who can’t afford to be prepared for school,” Westbrook said. “If these kids aren’t prepared with the school supplies they need, then they have a much smaller chance at success in the classroom.

“It’s very humbling for me to participate in things like this. My hope is that this encourages the kids to learn and feel like they can be anything they want to be.”

Westbrook also gave a letter to the children encouraging them to work hard and believe in themselves.

For more than six years, Brian’s Blessings has helped underprivileged children foster a sense of high self worth by providing them with the tools they need to learn, play and achieve their dreams. Its goal is to raise awareness of the needs of the less fortunate and to address those needs. In addition to providing tangibles such as food, educational materials and toys at the holidays, Brian’s Blessings also strives to provide the empowerment and inspiration children need to become successful young people.

Although Westbrook was not in Washington DC to hand out the backpacks himself, his parents, Ron and Zelda Westbrook, were on hand to deliver the personal touch.

“My parents raised me the right way and they always taught me to give back to people who are less fortunate than me,” Westbrook said. “I want to make sure every child has the opportunity to succeed in life.”

Brian’s Blessings has primarily helped youth in the Washington DC area, but Westbrook said he plans on expanding its reach to the Bay Area.

Willis McGahee and the local Realtor Association donated over 350 backpacks filled with school supplies to less fortunate children.

Willis McGahee today announced that he has partnered with the Howard County Association of Realtors to provide over 350 less fortunate children with backpacks and school supplies. The gift has been made possible through McGahee’s Charitable Arm, The Willis McGahee Foundation and donations from Realtors and Affiliate Members of the Howard County Association of Realtors.

“I’m so blessed to be in a position where I can give back,” says McGahee, “and my partnership with the Howard County Association of Realtors has been invaluable in helping me do this. Not only do they come through in a big way with donations and volunteers, as Realtors they are in touch with the needs of the community at a grassroots level on a daily basis. Once they identify needs, we get together and try to fill as many of those needs as we can.”

The Willis McGahee Foundation was established to help underprivileged children in the Baltimore area by providing them with the tools, resources and encouragement they need to become self sufficient young people with a sense of high self-worth. The Willis McGahee Foundation provides toys during the holidays, Thanksgiving meals, school supplies, books, educational material and dental supplies to children in need and their families.

“The Howard County Association of Realtors teamed up with the Willis McGahee Foundation last year to better serve the people who needed help. It has been a very rewarding relationship with great success and an out pouring of support and gratitude,” says Kenny Smallwood, HCAR President, “Willis is a great team leader, we admire and respect him. He is a true Humanitarian.”

In early 2009, The Willis McGahee Foundation was honored by the Howard County Government for the support of county children and received the “Celebrating Successes for Children Award.” In October 2009, McGahee was named the 2009 Humanitarian of the Year and will receive the John W. Holland Humanitarian Award in recognition of his foundation’s charitable work.

Representatives from The Willis McGahee Foundation and The Howard County Association of Realtors will be delivering the backpacks and school supplies to a Howard County Program called ‘Prepare For Success’ which will distribute the gift through the Howard County Public School System.

“I’ve always admired the longstanding relationship BGCGW has had with the community and am so honored to partner with them to bring backpacks and school supplies to over 150 children this year,” Westbrook says, “It’s very humbling for me to participate in things like this. Remember to help others and treat them the way you want to be treated. But most of all, I want you to believe in yourself. I believe in you and I know that if you put your mind to it, you can be anything you want to be in life!”

Washington, DC — Aug 16, 2010

Washington DC – August 16, 2010: Brian Westbrook today announced that he will sign with the San Francisco 49ers. The details of the contract have not yet been released.

“I can’t wait to get back on the football field. I’m rested, healthy and have been training hard this offseason. I’m excited to bring a renewed passion and inten-sity to my game and to be a vital part of this offense,” says Westbrook, “It just feels like a really good fit for me.”

Westbrook became an unrestricted free agent in 2010 with his release from the Philadelphia Eagles. Before deciding on San Francisco, several teams ex-pressed interest in Westbrook, most notably the Denver Broncos, St. Louis Rams, and the Washington Redskins.

Career accolades for the Pro-Bowler include records in both rushing and receiving yards for the Philadelphia Eagles, holding the second highest number rush-ing yards in franchise history. Westbrook has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week three times, most recently in 2008 when he recorded a ca-reer-high 4 touchdowns in a single game vs. Arizona (2 receiving and 2 rush-ing.) The Villanova University graduate hails from Ft. Washington, Maryland.</h3all>

Miami, FL – Those attending this year’s “Snoop Bowl, ” presented by Title Sports Drink, which is distributed exclusively by Blue Gem Enterprise (OTCBB: BGEM), will get double for their money.

On February 6, 2010, Snoop Bowl VIII in Miami, FL, will feature two youth football games for the first time in its eight year history. The first game pits members of Prime Time Deion Sanders’ Texas based Truth Select All-Stars against the Naperville (Illinois) Patriots’ American Youth Football (AYF) team. “I’m excited about the opportunity to connect with Snoop to expand this game,” said Sanders. “I think the game will be a nice prelude to Snoop Bowl IX in Dallas next year.” The second game features the Snoop Dogg All-Stars and South Florida All-Stars.

Annually, the “Snoop Bowl” has the Snoop Dogg All Stars traveling to the Super Bowl to challenge a team of all stars from the host city. Last year, Snoop’s team decisively defeated the Mike Alstott led Tampa All-Stars, 22-6, in Tampa. This year the challenge moves to Miami, and anything can happen.

The double-header makes room for more entertainment. Well known Miami-Based Artists DJ Khaled and Flo Rida will perform and several more acts will participate in the event. Also, the Mighty Marching Lions Band of Revealing Truth Ministries in Tampa, FL, is the official band of Snoop Bowl VIII.

The AYF team playing Deion’s Truth Select All-Stars is in partnership with athletic apparel outfitter Under Armour. Under Armour’s mission to make athletes better has extended to youth in recent years through its partnership with the national youth football and cheer organization. “It’s an honor for Under Armour to be involved in this year’s Snoop Bowl, “said Under Amour Brand Manager Leon Duncan. “We respect and support the work Snoop and others are doing to develop future athletes and leaders.” Off the field, Under Armour actively supports events like the Snoop Bowl and organizations that focus on improving the well-being of children.

Celebrity coaches for the games include Willis McGahee (Baltimore Ravens), Fred Taylor (New England Patriots), Bryant McKinnie (Minnesota Vikings), Max Starks (Pittsburgh Steelers), Greg Camarillo (Miami Dolphins), Bennie Blades (University of Miami and NCAA football hall of famer), Rudi Johnson and many more.

During its existence, the Snoop Bowl has drawn huge crowds and raised more than $100,000 for charities; this year will be no different. The game will be played at Miami’s mecca for high school football, Traz Powell Stadium. Snoop says, “I am happy that we’ve been doing this event for eight years – the kids love it and I do too. The future NFL stars play in this game annually and its fun to watch the kids imitate there favorite NFL stars.”

The Snoop Youth Football League, now in the eighth year of existence, has recently garnered a ton of credit from prestigious media outlets including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times as being a huge part in the success of Crenshaw High School’s undefeated football record.

Historically, Crenshaw has not been known for their football team but this year, nine of their players have come through the ranks of the SYFL, and it is no coincidence that the team is currently undefeated, earning them the Los Angeles city title. In fact, college recruiters have already approached a few of the ex-SYFL players, and the league is fielding calls from cities such as Dallas and Pittsburgh that want to replicate the Snoop model.

“It’s great to see entertainers, athletes and those involved in youth football on a national level coming together,” commented event organizer and former Florida Gator defensive end Thaddeus Bullard. “Our sponsors this year have committed everything they could to make this event the biggest it’s been. I’m very grateful for Title Sports Drink, Under Armour and others who have contributed in any way to this event.”

Gates to Nathanial Traz Powell Stadium, host of Snoop Bowl VIII, open at 10 am on game day. The first of the double-header begins at 11:00 am. Tickets to the event can be purchased online at www.ticketalternative.com or at the gate on Saturday, February 6, 2010. If you’re in the South Florida area, you may visit any Hall Of Fame Barbershop location for tickets. For shop location information, visit www.whosupnext.net.

Statement from Mr. Hue Jackson regarding new position as Offensive Coordinator with the Oakland Raiders:

“After much consideration I have decided to accept a position as Offensive Coordinator with the Oakland Raiders. I will miss the fans here and I thank them for all the encouragement and support they have shown me while I called Baltimore my home. I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to Steve Bisciotti, Ozzie Newsome, Dick Cass and especially Coach John Harbaugh who brought me to Baltimore. Baltimore will always hold a special place in my heart and I’m especially thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to work with a world class organization, a top notch coaching staff and some of the best talent in the league.

Baltimore Ravens’ Running Back Willis McGahee and Outside Linebaker Terrell Suggspartner with the Howard County Community Action Council and the Head Start program to donate toys for over 250 children this holiday season

  Baltimore, MD — Dec 23, 2009 —

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD(December 23, 2008)—Thanks to the generosity of Baltimore Ravens Willis McGahee, Terrell Suggs and The Willis McGahee Foundation, 250 of Howard Country’s neediest children will enjoy gifts they may not otherwise receive this holiday season. The player’s representatives will be on-hand to personally distribute the toys on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 at The Dasher Green Head Start Center located at 6680 Cradlerock Way Columbia, MD 21045 from 11:30am – 12:30pm

Helping others is nothing new for McGahee. Last year McGahee held his 1st annual toy drive and was truly amazed by the support of the community. Linebacker Terrell Suggs recognized what a great impact it made on the kids and their families and decided to join McGahee in his efforts this year. In this philanthropic effort McGahee and Suggs seek to touch the lives of families who often struggle day-to-day to keep food on the table, a roof above their heads and come under great stress during the holiday season. With rising energy costs and a slowing economy, it means that more people than ever will be depending on the generosity of others this year. McGahee and Suggs want to make sure no family has to make the difficult decision between heating their home, putting a hot meal on the table this holiday season or providing a little joy to their children. “Last year, it was very humbling for me to participate in the toy drive. My hope is to inspire these kids and to let them know people care about them and that they can be and do anything they want in life,” McGahee says. Suggs echoed McGahee’s sentiments adding, “I am so blessed to be in a position to share with others and to be a part of teaching the kids that it’s important to be involved in the community.”

Philadelphia, PA — Dec 21, 2009 –

Philadelphia Eagles’ Running Back Brian Westbrook will host holiday celebration for less fortunate children and at-risk youth Monday, December 21st.

PHILADELPHIA, PA(December 17, 2009)—Thanks to the generosity of Philadelphia Eagles’ Running Back Brian Westbrook, some of Philadelphia’s neediest children will enjoy gifts they may not otherwise receive this holiday season. The player will be on-hand to personally distribute the toys on Monday, December 21st, 2009 at the Star Harbor Senior Center which is located on 4700 Springfield Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19143 from 5-7pm. (Westbrook arriving at 5:45)

Helping others is nothing new for Westbrook. For several years he has provided Thanksgiving meals and other support to those in need in the Philadelphia area. In this philanthropic effort Westbrook seeks to touch the lives of families who often struggle day-to-day to keep food on the table, a roof above their heads and come under great stress during the holiday season. With rising energy costs and a slow economy, it means that more people than ever will be depending on the generosity of others this year. Westbrook wants to make sure no family has to make the difficult decision between heating their home, putting a hot meal on the table, or providing a little joy to their children during the holidays. “In November, it was very humbling for me to participate in giving turkeys and other food to others for Thanksgiving. My hope is to inspire these kids and to let them know people care about them and that they can be anything they want in life,” Westbrook says. “I am so blessed to be in a position to share with others and to be a part of teaching the kids that it’s important to be involved in the community.”

“The Gift of Giving” During the holidays many disadvantaged children will not only go without gifts for themselves but will not be able to give even the smallest gift to someone else. These circumstances often lead to lower self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness. By helping these children experience “the gift of giving,” Westbrook aims to make their holidays a bit brighter and bolster their feelings of self-worth. In addition to toys for the kids, Westbrook will be providing gifts for the children’s loved ones. Children will be able to choose a gift for their loved one and wrap it during the holiday celebration. The children will enjoy a pizza party provided by Papa John’s Pizza of the Philadelphia Area and will have the opportunity to decorate their own cupcakes.

The children being hosted by Westbrook are those served by Rebuilding Together Philadelphia and Families are Victims Too.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Brian Westbrook will be available to the media from 5:45 – 6pm on December 21, 2009. Members of the media are welcome to arrive at 5pm and stay and observe the holiday celebration as well.

BALTIMORE, MD(November 12, 2009)—Thanks to the generosity of Baltimore Ravens Willis McGahee and The Willis McGahee Foundation, 500 of Howard Country’s neediest families will enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal in the privacy of their homes this holiday season. McGahee will be on-hand to personally distribute the packages on Tuesday, November 24th at The Owen Brown Interfaith Center. Located at 7246 Cradlerock Way Columbia, MD 21045 from 11:30am – 1:30pm.
